I think his best days are gone. Not sure if he could qualify to the final squad. By the way I saw other former great star is back in the 28-people group after Sigfus Sigurdsson of Iceland - it's Johnny Jensen for Norway - former long time Flensburg defence specialist.

The Icelandic coach has narrowed his list down from 28 to 21. Sigfús Sigurðsson is not on it. Like Strand, I suppose his best days are behind him too.

That´s not to say he might not be chosen on the last minute, but I doubt it. Iceland already has 2 specialized defensive players, Sverre Jakobsson and Ingimundur Ingumundarson, who work together like a machine. Together with Alexander Petersson, who stole more balls than any other person in the WCh in Sweden, they make a formidable defense.

I may be wrong, but I think this is the cut Iceland needed to make to win those 2 medals they won. A stable defense.

Before publishing 28-people lists didn't even know that Sigurdsson is back on court. I thought he retired in 2009 and came back only for some guest games in 2.Bundesliga in previous season. Surely his best time is gone, but possibly Sigfus could be better than Kari Kristjansson or Vignir Svavarsson. Despite good defence I don't really think Iceland(without Olafur Stefansson) to be medal favourite. Also I wonder why S.A. Jakobsson is often told to be 1,95/1,96m tall and 95-97 kg. He's really well-built and should have 105-110 kg I think(sometimes also see 106kg in statistics, but mostly below 100).

I've read he is out. But is he so important? Comparing to last WC Narcisse is back, so missing Accambray wouldn't be so huge loss(with Karabatić, Fernandez, Narcisse and possibly G.Gille).

Look at last world championship in Sweden. Narcisse, G.Gille, Bosquet were injured. Accambray helped us a lot. But this season, he wasn't very with Montpellier :/

Narcisse, aka Air France, will be back in national team in January. And it's good to see him back !

It's not that we don't view France as favourites, it's that everyone is sick of them winning everything all the time.

To be honest, for one team to dominate so much is a really bad thing for international handball. It makes the tournament a bit boring when everyone accepts that one team can win them all with no sweat at all.

I just took a look at the 20 players the coach of Slovenia has chosen... I did not see Vid Kavticnik on that list. Can anyone confirm thatt he won't be competing?

Even though Sigfús Sigurðsson might be a better choice than some of the other players, I don't disagree with the Icelandic coach to leave him out. He needs to start focusing more on young players.

I would very much like do disagree with your observation that Iceland are not medal favourites, but I can't. You're right. To be fair though, I don't really view Poland as medal favourite either. Especially now that Szmal is out.

Yes, without Szmal Poland isn't real favourite. But still with big chance for achieving olympic qualification tournament. Marcin Wichary from Wisła Płock could be strong replacement as goalkeeper.
